A Rush to Make Baskets

Reed growing at Lake Boort called spiny-flat sedge used for making baskets by Aboriginal women

Spiny Flat-Sedge Cyperus gymnocaulos is a type of rush that is abundant around the perimeter of Lake Boort. The recent floods have rejuvenated them. The Yung Balug ladies love collecting this sedge as it makes the best baskets. Recently Marilyne Nicholls has been busy weaving baskets collected from this area.
